Mission Camps

While driving in south Monroe one day, a couple involved in our ministry began to feel led to reach out to the children of a crime ridden apartment complex near their home. They shared their burden with us, and in the summer of 1999 Seeker Springs began a ministry that has proven to be very rewarding.

The ministry has grown from one to three different Day Camps in the Summer. Children from the inner city complex are brought out of that harsh environment, into a peaceful, natural setting where they are offered the opportunity to partake in many first time experiences. Some have never been swimming, roasted a marshmallow, been on a nature trail, but most importantly, some have never had the opportunity to experience the freedom, peace, joy, and hope that is found in Christ Jesus.

These camps draw volunteers from our area as well as out of state. They are totally cost free to the campers because they are sponsored by churches, companies, individuals, and associations/foundations. Through the years many of these kids have began a relationship with God and some have grown to be leaders for others in their situation. In addition we have enjoyed the blessing of developing relationships with them as well. This camp is a model of what the Christian community is all about. Crossing cultural boundaries for the sake of the Gospel.

Foster Kids Camps

Another Mission Camp that we provide is Foster Kids Camps. These camps are designed to reach children and youth who are facing difficult life situations and have been placed in foster care. The kids are identified and referred by a variety of community agencies and schools to Seeker Springs.

Our goal is to help these children understand they are loved and also begin to restore lost hope. This camp is offered free to the participants and is supported by local businesses, churches, foundations, and individuals. It is staffed primarily by volunteer college students, as well as adults from our community.

We have different kinds of camps to meet the needs of these children:

  • Sibling Camp is an opportunity for siblings who have been separated in the foster care system to have a unique opportunity to reunite in a Christ-centered environment. This camp will provide a safe, fun environment for them to focus on their relationship with their siblings, their relationship to others, and their relationship with God. We hope to bring loving, caring volunteers into the lives of these kids to share God’s love with them. Our goal is that everything said and every activity that takes place during this time will demonstrate to these siblings that in Christ they have purpose, they have family, and there is hope.
  • Life Skills Camp is an opportunity for kids who are about to age out of the foster care system to have a unique learning experience that will help prepare them to face the “real world.” This camp provides a safe, fun environment for them to focus on their life, their relationship to others, and their relationship with God. We hope to bring loving, caring, Godly adults into the lives of these teens in order to share God’s love with them. Our goal is that everything that we say and do during this weekend will demonstrate to them that in Christ they have purpose, there is hope, and God has a plan for their lives. We teach job skills, financial skills, relationship skills, coping skills, and help them connect with continued education opportunities. We hope to see them off in a positive direction as they transition into the next stage of life.
