While driving in south Monroe one day, a couple involved in our ministry began to feel led to reach out to the children of a crime ridden apartment complex near their home. They shared their burden with us, and in the summer of 1999 Seeker Springs began a ministry that has proven to be very rewarding.
The ministry has grown from one to three different Day Camps in the Summer. Children from the inner city complex are brought out of that harsh environment, into a peaceful, natural setting where they are offered the opportunity to partake in many first time experiences. Some have never been swimming, roasted a marshmallow, been on a nature trail, but most importantly, some have never had the opportunity to experience the freedom, peace, joy, and hope that is found in Christ Jesus.
These camps draw volunteers from our area as well as out of state. They are totally cost free to the campers because they are sponsored by churches, companies, individuals, and associations/foundations. Through the years many of these kids have began a relationship with God and some have grown to be leaders for others in their situation. In addition we have enjoyed the blessing of developing relationships with them as well. This camp is a model of what the Christian community is all about. Crossing cultural boundaries for the sake of the Gospel.
